Jill Neubauer Architects is dedicated to "Building Green", which means striving for energy and environmental sustainability, and incorporating non-toxic materials into projects. We can help you build responsibly whether you are just learning about "going green" or have the most advanced knowledge and goals. As members of the US Green Building Council, we strive to incorporate the four core values of "Green Building Design" in all our structures: Conservation, Renewable Energy Generation, Sustainability, and Healthy, Non-Toxic Living.
Through the US Green Building Council, JNA has access to extensive resources for consultants, and is committed to improving both your home's environment, as well as the earth's. We pursue LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) on new and significantly renovated projects. Whether pursuing LEED Certification or not, JNA builds utilizing LEED best practices.
Conserving energy is the most important aspect of being green. Forty percent of the energy consumed in the US is used to heat and cool buildings. JNA has always built well, but we now take full advantage of the products and techniques available to build a tight envelope. Additionally, we specify products that ensure durability while minimizing waste and reducing transportation pollutants. FSC-certified lumber for framing, along with recycled and sustainable products, contributes to a responsible project.
Alternative energy systems already incorporated into JNA projects include solar domestic hot water heating systems, photovoltaic (solar) electricity, and geothermal heating and cooling systems. Residential wind power is becoming a viable option for certain sites.
Non-toxic exterior building materials include plywood and adhesives with low- or no- formaldehyde, recycled decking, and FSC-certified wood for siding. New interior materials can eliminate formaldehyde in cabinetry. We use no-VOC paints, sustainable flooring, and energy efficient lights and appliances. When possible, we utilize local suppliers, craftsmen, and subcontractors. We work with the Owners and builder to make best practice decisions and strive for an energy efficient home that is healthy to live in and will endure well into the future.
