Martha's Vineyard, MA    2007

Located on a thirty-five acre equestrian farm on Martha’s Vineyard, this bath house and pool pavilion were designed and constructed in collaboration with the landscape architects at Stephen Stimson Associates. As the first phase of a significant renovation of the residence, the landscape and pool buildings offered the opportunity to establish an aesthetic and stylistic direction for the property.

Characterized by simple forms, clean lines, and a restrained palette of rich materials, the structures are anchored in the landscape at the base of a series of lawn terraces in the hill. The infinity pool flows over a stone wall at the far end to draw family and guests to a lower level with the hot tub.

The pavilion was designed as an open outdoor home, with cooking, dining, living, and outdoor showering. As evening settles in, and a fire is lit in the stone fireplace, the diaphanous curtain can be drawn, to keep the warmth in and the bugs out.
